Aerial Silks

There’s so much fun to be had on the silks with a wide variety of sequences, poses and drops to learn!

We’ll start beginners off learning basic climbs, wraps and locks, along with some fun shapes that will build your strength and confidence. Once you’ve got the hang of those, the fun really starts!

Tell us what you’d like to achieve out of your sessions and we’ll help you to work towards it. Some people like making pretty shapes and taking pictures of them, some people like learning sequences of moves and putting them into a routine, and the thrill seekers love the drops! We’ll build your skills to work towards your goals safely.

“If you don’t leap, you’ll never know what it’s like to fly”

Seeing those silks stretching all the way up to the ceiling can seem intimidating, but it’s important to remember that it’ll be a fair while before we’re letting you climb into the rafters. To begin with, everything you do will be very close to the ground – your instructor won’t tell you to climb higher than is safe for your skill level.

Did you know…

… that although silks was only “officially” recognised as a circus arts discipline in the 1990s, circus students were experimenting with performances on long pieces of fabric several decades before that, in the 1950s. Cirque du Soleil catapulted the art into the spotlight in their Quidam production, which premiered in 1996, and the BBC quickly got in on the act by commissioning their red silks ident which many still remember.
